A
little more than fifty years ago Villasimius was just a little village of
fishermen and farmers. Over the years, the village grew and became a small
town.
Today its inhabitants have finally realised that its greatest asset
is not to be found in the sea, but is the sea itself and this is why they
sponsored the setting up of the "Area Marina Protetta di Capo
Carbonara" (the
Capo Carbonara Marine Park), which covers a wide area including Cavoli and
Serpentara Islands.
This is a place where the flora and fauna, both of land
and sea, are jealously nurtured.
Here, unspoilt and untamed nature still
offers the visitor a vision of purity and peace which appears to belong
to a
long-gone era.
Each day, a whole fleet of pleasure craft leave their moorings
to explore
the most fascinating nooks and crannies of the coast. Itineraries by
land and sea lead us to the discovery of rare natural beauty.
A place on which Nature from the start lavished her gifts has received
a helping hand from Man who decided to protect this heritage and spread
its
fame all
over the world.
So this is Villasimius: 35 kms of coast from north to
west. A natural treasure trove of immense value,
a variety of scenery which, probably,
is unrivalled anywhere in the world.
Villasimius is the ideal place for the holiday maker looking
for peace and quiet, just the sun, sea and sand and nothing else.
Its long white beaches mean that sunbathing is an individual
joy.
Dozing off close to the sea, you might be woken by the breaking
of the surf, only to fall back into your trance, warmed by
the sun and cradled in the soft sand.
Every now and then, you can
dive into the sea, take a short swim, peer down at the sea
bed (don't forget your mask and snorkel) and then back to sunning
yourself on the beach, as a feeling of beatitude and well-being
enfolds you.
You'll lose track of time - the hours slip by
more slowly than usual, marked by the gentle soughing of the waves.
